Banqiao is located in the intersection of Dahan and Xindian River, which is opposite the Taipei City Wanhua District by a river.
It is also an important transit city in Taipei basin. Banqiao was thriving on agricultures in 1950s, in manufacture conversions in 1960s, developing in industry and commerce in 1970s, and lastly became a rapidly developing financial-commercial city in
1980s-1990s. In addition, it is also where the New Taipei City Hall is located, thus it is truly the center of Politics-Economics in New Taipei City.
Banqiao is a very early developed city; the precious garden-styled architecture of Qing Dynasty, Lin’s Family Mansion and Garden is situated within.
It is also the most complete garden-styled architecture in Taiwan.
In the early age, only nobles, yamen(old time government unit), and rich people were able to build this kind of garden. In order to pursuit the luxurious life or business purposes, they would spend huge amount of money building this neat and beautiful garden. The interior of Lin’s Family Mansion and Garden was seriously damaged due to the prior war period so it arouses many people to preserve this big architecture. Due to the efforts of Taipei County Government (former New Taipei City Government), and Central Government, the recovering of historical site project was schemed by National Taiwan University t in 1986. That is the result of many Government Departments’ effort so a beautiful Lin’s Family Mansion and Garden is still in a excellent condition.
Because that Banqiao is the joint center of High Speed Rail, Taiwan Railways, Mass Rapid Transit, and Highway Bus Station. Therefore, it is then playing an important role on commercial and financial area in Big Taipei City. Since that, many enterprises started entering Banqiao District and made the economic development grow; the population has reached 550,000 people in July. 2008, and makes Banqiao the most populated administration district in Taiwan.
