I.Opening a new bank account: Foreigners residing in New Taipei City wishing to open bank accounts are required to bring a valid passport and ARC to the designated bank (those who have yet to receive their ARC shall apply for their ROC Uniform ID Number at their local National Immigration Agency service stations and use their ROC Uniform ID Number instead). II.Applying for an ATM card and reminders on its usage: (i)Application: Foreign residents with bank accounts may apply for an ATM card at the original branch (where they opened their accounts) by bringing their valid passport and personal seal (or signature). (ii)Usage: The ATM card may be used to deposit, withdraw or transfer money within the country. (iii)Withdrawal limit: One may withdraw money from an ATM in multiples of NT$ 100 denomination, not exceeding NT$ 30,000 per withdrawal (NT$ 20,000 for inter-bank withdrawals). One may withdraw no more than NT$ 100,000 per day. (iv)Transfer limit: One may transfer no more than NT$ 30,000 to another account in a single day (to non-designated accounts). If you intend to transfer more than NT$30,000 in a single transaction, you need to proceed to your bank and apply for account designation. Doing so will elevate the cap of transfer to a maximum of NT$ 2 million per transaction (refer to the regulation of your bank for the highest daily transfer limit). (v)What to do when you have lost/misplaced your ATM card: When you lose/misplace your ATM card, you may use the 24-hour lost ATM card reporting hotline to cancel the lost card and proceed to the bank as soon as possible to complete the lost card registration procedure. (vi)ATM card replacement fee: Banks may impose specific fees for the application for issuance/lost/replacement of ATM cards. Please contact your bank for more information. III. Bill collection services: Foreign residents with demand deposit/demand saving deposit accounts in NT$ may apply for bill collection services for various utility (water/electricity/gas and so forth) bills by producing their personal seals/signature and photocopies of bills.

V. Reminders on foreign currency exchange: Foreign residents wishing to exchange foreign currency should bring a passport or ARC to the bank to do so. Designated foreign exchange banks may impose transaction fee and T/T fees for the buying/selling of specific foreign currency according to the fee standards disclosed. VI. Reminders on deposits of foreign currency Regulations pertaining to foreign residents opening deposit accounts in foreign currency shall be similar to existing regulations that govern the management of deposit accounts in New Taiwan Dollar. Relevant applications for the purchasing/selling of foreign currencies shall be performed in accordance to pertinent international foreign exchange regulations.
