The Wan Jin Shi Marathon is Taiwan’s first World Athletics Gold Label race and the first marathon in Taiwan to receive the Responsible Sport Silver Certification.

[New Taipei City News]
The 2026 New Taipei City Wan Jin Shi Marathon will kick off on March 15, 2026. Today (17th), New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-Ih and Yeh Cheng-Yen, Chairman of the Chinese Taipei Athletics Association, announced at a press conference that race registration will be open from 12:00 p.m. on October 17 to 12:00 p.m. on October 30.

For 2026, the event will add 500 extra slots each in both the Full Marathon and Challenge Marathon categories. Mayor Hou also declared 2026 as the “Year of Sports Equality,” highlighting three major initiatives—women’s exclusive slots, a non-binary category, and visual impairment pacers—to demonstrate New Taipei City’s commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and universal participation in sports.

Mayor Hou stated that the Wan Jin Shi Marathon is Taiwan’s first World Athletics Gold Label race and the first marathon in Taiwan to receive the “Responsible Sport Silver Certification.” Beyond competitiveness and sustainability, the city hopes to advance sports equality through this event. The 2026 marathon will introduce a non-binary category in the registration system for the first time, allowing every runner to express their true identity. In addition to the existing visual impairment pacers in the Full Marathon, the Challenge Marathon will also include pacers for visually impaired runners—turning equality from a slogan into real action. To further encourage women to join road running and build regular exercise habits, all 500 newly added slots in the Challenge Marathon will be exclusively for women.

Mayor Hou noted that sports equality has become a global trend. By implementing the UN SDGs, New Taipei City aims to use the Wan Jin Shi Marathon to once again convey the spirit that everyone has an equal right to participate in sports.

Mayor Hou emphasized that sports equality is an inevitable trend and that New Taipei City is actively implementing the UN SDGs. Through the Wan Jin Shi Marathon, the city aims to reaffirm that everyone has the right to enjoy sports equally. He also expressed special gratitude to Chairman Yeh and all sponsoring partners for their long-term support, noting that the marathon’s growth and transformation have always been backed by these steadfast contributors.

According to the Sports Office, the 2026 race shirt design was inspired by the natural scenery of Taiwan’s North Coast, featuring a silhouette-style design that, for the first time, is not differentiated by race category. In addition to the five designs unveiled at the press conference, there will be a limited “Hidden Edition” shirt (300 pieces) selected by public vote. From October 18 to 12:00 p.m. on October 30, participants can visit the official Wan Jin Shi Marathon Facebook page, vote for their favorite design, and comment with their choice and tag a friend to complete the voting. Participants will also have a chance to win exclusive prizes, and the Hidden Edition design will be announced together with the lottery draw results.
