Hou You-yi Visits Leading Fireworks Team in Sydney, Aiming to Elevate New Taipei’s Riverfront Fireworks to International Standards
[New Taipei City News] With the Danhai Bridge scheduled to open in May this year, New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-yi led a delegation to Sydney, Australia, to visit Foti International Fireworks, a globally renowned fireworks design company. The visit aims to enhance the quality and safety of the city’s riverfront fireworks displays. Hou emphasized that “New Taipei City should not only have world-class landmarks, but also world-class celebrations,” noting that insights from Sydney’s New Year’s Eve fireworks will be used to elevate both technical standards and international visibility, while leveraging the iconic features of the Danhai Bridge.

Foti International Fireworks is one of Australia’s leading professional fireworks teams, with the Foti family’s pyrotechnics heritage spanning more than 200 years. Since 1997, the company has been responsible for the design and execution of Sydney’s New Year’s Eve fireworks. Hou noted that the global success of Sydney’s fireworks lies in the integration of iconic landscapes with advanced technical expertise. During the visit, the delegation focused on how fireworks systems are integrated with bridge structures to ensure operational safety without affecting traffic infrastructure. They also examined how environmental factors such as wind direction and sea conditions are carefully managed to achieve precise timing and coordination, which are critical considerations for future fireworks displays on the Danhai Bridge.

Hou added that with the Danhai Bridge set to open in May, New Taipei will gain a new city skyline, linking tourism resources across Tamsui, Bali, the North Coast, and the Northeast Coast, and forming the “Route 2 Taiwan Corridor.” In addition to technical learning, the delegation also studied how Sydney leverages marketing strategies to transform local celebrations into globally recognized city branding events.

The city government noted that it will continue refining the “Shining New Taipei 1314 Cross-River Fireworks” program, enhancing safety management, artistic design, and brand communication. The goal is to boost tourism along the river corridor and establish the event as a signature annual attraction drawing international visitors to Taiwan.
