New Taipei City’s Baogao team visited Kyoto Research Park in Japan for an exchange. They toured Panasonic Kusatsu Factory, expanding new opportunities for international smart city cooperation.
【NEW TAIPEI CITY News】New Taipei City Deputy Mayor Her-Ran Liou led the city government's Bao Gao Industrial Park development team and the Director of the New Taipei City Industrial Development & Investment Promotion Committee, Cheng-Ta Hsieh to Japan for investment promotion, outreach, and to learn from Japanese industrial park experiences. With the active assistance of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, the team visited Kyoto Research Park (KRP) this morning and had a fruitful exchange on smart cities and smart industrial parks. In the afternoon, the team visited the Panasonic Kusatsu Factory to gain a deeper understanding of Panasonic's innovative achievements in new energy solutions. Deputy Mayor Liu also enthusiastically invited Kyoto Prefecture, Kyoto Research Park, and Panasonic Holdings to visit New Taipei City and Bao Gao Industrial Park in the future, and even consider setting up research centers, so that Taiwan and Japan can work together to build a smart, zero-carbon, resilient, and livable international city.

Kyoto is renowned for its exceptional investment environment, characterized by a harmonious blend of tradition, wisdom, and innovation. It has fostered the growth of numerous world-renowned Japanese companies, including Kyocera, Nintendo, Murata, Rohm, and OMRON. Kyoto Research Park serves as the epicenter of Kyoto's technology and innovation industry, concentrating on information and communication technology, biotechnology, electronics, and machinery.

Ashikaga Kenjun, Director of the Commerce, Labor, Tourism Department of Kyoto Prefecture, shared that Kyoto Prefecture is promoting the development of a smart city through the "Kyoto Big Data Utilization Platform" (KBDP). He enthusiastically invited New Taipei City to participate in the annual "Kyoto Smart City Expo" to facilitate the exchange of smart city experiences between the two cities. Kyoto Research Park stated that KRP serves as an innovative experimental demonstration site for Kyoto to promote the development of a smart city. Moreover, KRP holds an annual KRP Carnival, emphasizing co-creation with the local community to jointly promote the development of new businesses and industries.

Deputy Mayor Liu stated that both New Taipei City and Kyoto Prefecture, as well as the BaoGao Industrial Park and Kyoto Research Park, share a high degree of synchronization and relevance in areas such as intelligent transportation, smart cities, innovation and entrepreneurship, and the construction of new AI industrial clusters. In particular, BaoGao Smart Industrial Park is a significant new cluster for electric vehicle research and testing in Taiwan, while Kyoto boasts a solid electronic component industry. It is hoped that both parks can work together to facilitate cooperation among businesses in the next generation of automotive components, automotive chips, and smart cockpits. Furthermore, it is hoped that a Memorandum of Understanding can be signed in the future to further solidify the cooperative relationship between the two parties.

During its visit to Japan, the New Taipei City investment promotion delegation toured Panasonic Kusatsu Factory, a renowned RE100 green factory. This visit aligns with New Taipei City's commitment to promoting green energy and sustainability. In response to the city government's "Net-Zero Carbon Demonstration Site Promotion Subsidy Program," Panasonic Taiwan's Zhonghe Factory has implemented a comprehensive energy solution, combining solar power, hydrogen fuel cells, and energy storage. This innovative approach not only reduces carbon emissions but also enhances the resilience of the local power grid. The project serves as a model for other businesses seeking to achieve net-zero emissions.
Deputy Mayor Liu emphasized that achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 has become a global consensus. The New Taipei City Government is actively working with various enterprises, civic groups, and all citizens to contribute to the sustainable development of the Earth. New Taipei City looks forward to building an even closer cooperative relationship with Panasonic Japan in the future. Deputy Mayor Liu also sincerely invites Panasonic Japan to establish an overseas research center in the Baogao Science and Intellectual Park, making it the best place for Panasonic's new energy solutions to be researched and tested in Taiwan!
