New Taipei City Wins First Prize at the 2024 WITSA Global Innovation and Tech Excellence Awards, with Its Information Security Online Class System Acknowledged by the Global ICT Community
On October 6th, New Taipei City participated in the 2024 Global Innovation and Tech Excellence Awards ceremony in Yerevan, Armenia hosted by WITSA. The New Taipei City Government was selected through the domestic preliminary process conducted by the Information Service Industry Association of R.O.C. (CISA), and finally stood out among fierce competition from a total of 22 proposals across 10 countries. Representing Taiwan, New Taipei City was awarded first prize in the "WITSA Global Innovation and Tech Excellence Awards," commonly known as the Oscars of international ICT industry. New Taipei City won the first prize in the "E-Education & Learning Award" category for its information security online course on an innovative public education model, demonstrating the city’s remarkable achievements in the application of smart technology innovation, which have been widely recognized internationally.

The "World Innovation, Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA)" is the largest industry association in the global ICT service sector, with member organizations from 85 economies across five continents. To promote the practical application of software services and the digital transformation of industries, WITSA partners with governments worldwide to jointly create a digital economy. By hosting the "Global Innovation and Tech Excellence Awards", WITSA recognizes digital solutions and benchmark cases from member representatives, with evaluation criteria based on global impact, scalability, innovative features and functionalities, and proven solution, WITSA encourages the use of technology to bridge digital divide and eliminate trade barriers between nations. This competition attracts fierce participation from the public and private sectors each year around the world. This year, a total of 127 proposals were submitted for the competition, with Taiwan’s proposals winning 6 major awards, showcasing the outstanding digital capabilities on the global stage.

The director of the Information Management Center, Chen Fu-Tien, expresses that winning this award is a significant recognition of New Taipei City’s efforts in utilizing technology in the field of cybersecurity education. The entry for this competition was themed "Information Security Online Class System of New Taipei City Government-Information Security Management Platform," the key to winning lies in the online delivery of highly specialized cybersecurity courses, allowing all city employees to receive digital education without being constrained by time or location, thereby achieving lifelong learning. This system features many innovative learning and management functions, including an emphasis on a user-centered, one-stop personalized learning model, and a comprehensive cybersecurity control and training effectiveness tracking mechanism. It comprehensively manages and ensures consistent standards for awareness and training across all agencies in New Taipei City, supporting Taiwan’s strategic goal of "Cybersecurity as National Security." This approach allowed the city to stand out among many international competitors and earn the first prize in the "E-Education & Learning Award."

As the most populous city in Taiwan, New Taipei City has 489 agencies under its municipality, with over 30,000 employees serving citizens across 29 different administrative districts. To ensure the continuity and security of digital information and various municipal services, and to provide comprehensive protection that allows citizens to live more securely. Therefore, the New Taipei City Government actively cultivates employees' cybersecurity awareness and professional training internally. It also coordinates and manages cybersecurity operations throughout the city government, enhancing the city's cybersecurity protection capabilities and allowing all agencies to operate their every business services normally, in order to safeguard urban safety, maintain public interests and build a resilient and secure smart city.
