New Taipei Youth Department Leads Teams in Exchange with Austria’s Official Accelerator, Opening International Horizons for New Taipei Startups
On the 7th October, the New Taipei City Government Youth Department, along with several local startups, hosted seven Austrian tech startup teams at “InnoSquare” in Sanchong, led by the Austrian Commercial Office, for an international exchange. Both sides had in-depth discussions in fields such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and smart cities. They explored potential cooperation between European entrepreneurs setting up in Taiwan and Taiwanese teams expanding into Europe. Along with exchanging business presentations, the event showcased New Taipei City’s dynamic startup ecosystem on the international stage.
The Austrian delegation was brought to InnoSquare by Austria’s official accelerator, GIN (Global Incubator Network), with the support of the Austrian Commercial Office. During his speech, Director Mr. Hermann Ortner expressed gratitude to the New Taipei City Government and was impressed by InnoSquare’s youthful and innovative atmosphere. Marcia Qiu, Commissioner of the New Taipei City Government Youth Department, emphasized that international exchange is a priority in fostering tech entrepreneurs, as it enhances their ability to communicate with global partners and forge business connections. She also pointed out that New Taipei is Taiwan's largest city in terms of population and small and medium-sized enterprises, encouraging Austrian startups to set up in New Taipei.
The New Taipei City Government Youth Department is dedicated to promoting technology entrepreneurship. It currently operates eight startup hubs, offering entrepreneurs a wide range of resources, including office space at below-market prices, mentorship services in various fields, business courses, and free opportunities to participate in exhibitions, providing robust support for outstanding startups.
The Youth Department also actively fosters international exchange by collaborating with accelerators and organizations worldwide to broaden the global vision of local entrepreneurs. Recent examples include the “2024 New Taipei Demo Day,” which invited startups and venture capitalists from around the world, and the participation of three New Taipei teams in InnovFest, one of East Asia’s largest startup exhibitions, held in Singapore in May.
Marcia Qiu commented, “The Austrian startups participating in this exchange are highly experienced and showcased their innovative breakthroughs in the European market. On the other hand, teams from InnoSquare, Greentech Hub, and BAOGAO Digibase engaged in product and technology exchanges, receiving valuable feedback. Such international exchanges not only improve the professional capabilities of local entrepreneurs but also help them prepare for entry into the global market.”
New Taipei is not only a hub for local startup development but is also an ideal base for foreign startups. During the exchange, Qiu highlighted that New Taipei has a significant number of SMEs, traditional industries, and factories. Foreign startups setting up in New Taipei can leverage the city’s well-established supply chains and manufacturing advantages, along with the Youth Department’s startup hubs and resources, to swiftly enter the Taiwan market and use it as a springboard into other Asian countries. She emphasized that internationalization is a key part of New Taipei’s startup ecosystem, and the city government will continue to provide support for foreign startups, promoting cross-border cooperation and market expansion.
