Mayor Hou presents Executive Director Boonsatheanwong with a box of fine tea from New Taipei City as a commemorative gift.

Narong Boonsatheanwong, Executive Director of the Thailand Trade and Economic Office, visited the New Taipei City Government today (July 22nd) to meet with Mayor Hou Yu-Ih. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on topics including economic and trade relations, investment, law enforcement cooperation, and labor exchanges. Mayor Hou reaffirmed New Taipei City's long-standing positive ties with Thailand, expressing confidence that both sides will build on this foundation to continuously expand practical exchanges and deepen their partnership.

He noted that New Taipei City and Thailand enjoy close economic and trade relations. Amid the global restructuring of supply chains, the two sides are highly complementary across high-tech industries such as electronics, semiconductors, and smart manufacturing. He declared that many enterprises in New Taipei City have already established steady partnerships with Thai counterparts, jointly driving industrial chain development. Mayor Hou expressed gratitude for Executive Director Boonsatheanwong's proactive efforts since taking office to facilitate the Taiwan-Thailand Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement and advance visa-free travel for Taiwanese visitors. This further fosters bilateral economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

Mayor Hou noted that Taiwan and Thailand have long maintained beneficial cooperation in public safety and law enforcement, pointing to strong results in fighting cross-border crime through intelligence sharing and operational exchanges. He also praised the professionalism and efficiency demonstrated by Thai law enforcement agencies. Furthermore, he emphasized that many Thai migrant workers have made significant contributions to New Taipei's development across various industries and public infrastructure projects in the city. New Taipei City will continue to advance migrant worker support and talent retention policies to build a safe, inclusive, and resilient environment for all who live and work here.

Executive Director Boonsatheanwong thanked the New Taipei City Government for its long-standing care and commitment to Thai migrant workers, providing a supportive working and living environment. He highlighted the positive results already achieved through close cooperation on information sharing and combating cross-border crime by law enforcement agencies in both nations. Moving forward, Thailand plans to host Taiwanese law enforcement units for practical exchanges, further deepening bilateral cooperation in public safety governance and jointly boosting efficiency in regional security and law enforcement.

Executive Director Boonsatheanwong also stressed that fostering bilateral non-governmental and economic exchanges remains a core mission. He noted that frequent direct flights between Taiwan and Thailand have laid a solid foundation for deeper cooperation in trade, tourism, labor, and culture, expressing optimism for even greater engagement in the future.

Mayor Hou emphasized that New Taipei City will continue deepening ties with Thailand across all sectors. Through city diplomacy, he stated, the city aims to drive trade, industrial innovation, and talent exchanges, partnering to foster mutual prosperity.

The meeting took place in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting strong alignment on expanding local diplomacy and substantive cooperation. Guests from the Thailand Trade and Economic Office in attendance today included Executive Director Narong Boonsatheanwong, Deputy Executive Director Supara Pengsritong, Director of the Labour Division (Taipei) Tosapol Sumanont, Chief of the Consular Section, Pongsak Thepruangchai, and Officer Sunee Saeyang. Representing the New Taipei City Government, Mayor Hou was accompanied by Director General of the Secretariat Juh Hui-Mei, and Commissioner of the Labor Affairs Department Chen Jui-Chia.
