Northern Taiwan's Four Cities Head to Thailand in July to Capture Southeast Asia's Tourism Market New Taipei Highlights Instagrammable Attractions, Culinary Experiences, and Spiritual Tourism
To further expand the international tourism market and attract more Southeast Asian visitors to Taiwan, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Keelung City, and Taoyuan City will jointly visit Thailand from July 1 to July 4 to conduct a tourism promotion campaign. Under the regional tourism brand of Northern Taiwan's Four Cities, the delegation will promote the diverse tourism appeal of Northern Taiwan to Thailand's travel industry, media, and consumers, working together to expand Taiwan's inbound tourism market in Thailand.
The Tourism and Travel Department of the New Taipei City Government stated that Thailand is one of Taiwan's key source markets in Southeast Asia. According to statistics, Taiwan welcomed approximately 327,000 Thai visitors in 2025, making Thailand one of the top three Southeast Asian visitor markets for Taiwan. From January to April 2026, the number of Thai visitors to Taiwan exceeded 147,000, demonstrating strong market growth potential.
Market analysis shows that approximately 60 percent of Thai travelers visit Taiwan through group tours, while 40 percent travel independently, with an average stay of four to five days. Thai visitors are particularly interested in photogenic attractions, religious and cultural experiences, local cuisine, and shopping itineraries. These preferences closely align with New Taipei City's diverse tourism resources. During this promotion, New Taipei City will actively introduce themed travel itineraries featuring "Instagrammable Attractions + Religious Blessings + Local Cuisine + Signature Festivals" to Thai media and travel agencies, with the goal of incorporating more New Taipei experiences into Taiwan travel packages and encouraging longer stays in the city.
During the Thailand promotion campaign, New Taipei City will market its tourism offerings through four major themes: emerging attractions, religious and spiritual tourism, culinary experiences, and signature festivals.
For emerging attractions, New Taipei City will highlight the newly completed Danjiang Bridge, the New Taipei City Art Museum, which integrates art with urban aesthetics, and the Ruishan Coal Preparation Plant, which showcases the revitalization of mining heritage. These attractions demonstrate New Taipei City's unique blend of modern development, cultural history, and creative tourism.
In terms of religious and cultural tourism, New Taipei City offers a wide range of distinctive faith-based attractions. These include Banqiao Ci-Hui Temple, a century-old Mazu temple; Tamsui Tian Yuan Temple, renowned for its cherry blossoms and temple scenery; Nanshan Fude Temple in Hongludi, Zhonghe, which offers spectacular night views; Sanxia Qingshui Zushi Temple, known as an "Eastern Palace of Arts"; and Shiding Wulu Caishen Temple, a popular destination for visitors seeking blessings for prosperity. These sites provide Thai travelers with meaningful opportunities to experience Taiwan's traditional culture while making wishes and seeking blessings.
Cuisine promotion is another key focus of this campaign. New Taipei City will introduce a variety of local specialties to the Thai market, including Jiufen taro balls, Shimen rice dumplings, Tamsui A-gei, Shimen agar jelly, Pinglin tea cuisine, Wanli crab, Bali twin fried dough sticks, Pingxi mountain spring tofu pudding, and indigenous cuisine from Wulai. These culinary experiences showcase New Taipei's diverse food culture shaped by its mountains, coastline, and urban communities.
In addition, New Taipei City will promote its internationally recognized signature festivals, including the world-famous Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, the New Taipei Christmasland, which attracts millions of visitors annually, and the romantic Jiufen Red Lantern Festival, known for its enchanting mountain town atmosphere. Through these distinctive festival experiences, New Taipei City aims to attract more Thai visitors to explore Taiwan throughout the year.
To further strengthen the results of this tourism promotion, the four cities of Northern Taiwan plan to jointly invite Thai travel agencies and media representatives to Taiwan in September for an inspection tour. The itinerary will feature an in-depth one-day experience in each of the four cities, allowing participants to personally discover the diverse tourism appeal of Northern Taiwan. Through firsthand exchanges and travel product development, the initiative aims to attract more Thai visitors and create new opportunities for Taiwan-Thailand tourism cooperation.
