Mayor Dr. Yu-Ih Hou stated that New Taipei City is the most populous city in Taiwan, with a population of approximately 4.04 million. It covers a vast area and features both mountains and coastlines, boasting diverse natural landscapes and cultural characteristics. The city has the largest number of fishing ports in Taiwan as well as many distinctive historic streets, making it an important city with rich cultural and historical heritage. The city government has long been promoting the development of culture and the arts and shaping the city’s brand, and has also been actively engaging in exchanges and cooperation with European countries. Hungary enjoys a strong reputation in the fields of music and the arts. New Taipei City holds large-scale events such as the River & Ocean Music Festival every year, providing a solid foundation for promoting international music exchanges. The city hopes for joint performances and mutual visits by artists to allow citizens to experience the charm of diverse cultures up close.
Commissioner Tsung-Ming Yang, Ph.D., of the Department of Tourism and Travel added that the River & Ocean Music Festival is one of the most representative events for original music in Taiwan during the summer. Every year during the summer vacation, free outdoor music performances are held at distinctive riverside and coastal venues, featuring many representative Taiwanese indie bands. The event has successfully established a music brand that integrates river and ocean landscapes, attracting large numbers of citizens and tourists to participate, and the city hopes to further deepen exchanges with Hungary in the fields of music and tourism in the future.
With regard to music and cultural exchange, Commissioner Chia-Yu Chang of the Department of Cultural Affairs indicated that New Taipei City plans to hold outdoor music events in collaboration with the New Taipei City Art Museum from April to June this year. In addition to continuing its cooperation with the French Office in Taiwan, the city is also actively engaging in exchanges with multiple international arts and cultural organizations. Looking ahead, the city welcomes the use of music platforms to promote interactions with Hungarian arts and cultural groups, further deepening bilateral cultural ties.
Ms. Tamara Vér, Head of Mission of the Hungarian Trade Office, Taipei, shared that Hungary has a profound musical and cultural heritage, and expressed her hope that Hungarian bands could be invited to New Taipei City in the future to participate in music festival events, so as to bring the two places closer through musical exchange. She also thanked the city government for inviting her to take part in the Ambassadors’ Campus Lecture Series, during which she visited secondary schools in New Taipei City for cultural exchanges, thus allowing the younger generation to learn more about Hungarian culture and to further strengthen mutual friendship.
