New Taipei Delegation Visits SGInnovate: New Taipei Exchanges Views on Fostering Deep Tech Talents
[New Taipei City News] - New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-yi, accompanied by Youth Department Director General Chiu Chao-mei, visited SGInnovate this afternoon (Apr 21) and was personally received by CEO Dr Lim Ju. Mayor Hou also presented a cultural and creative gift of a Taiwan design exhibition to be hosted by New Taipei City, and invited everyone to come to New Taipei to participate in the exhibition and experience the food and culture of Taiwan.

Director-General Chiu noted that SGInnovate is a private company, but the shares are 100% owned by the government. The agency helps to identify new deep technology, such as AI technology and quantum computing technology. While there might be a lack of investment at the initial phase, the agency believes that the technologies are beneficial for the progress and development of Singapore’s society, and so will proceed to invest in technology and talents within this field.

Chiu further shared that SGInnovate is accountable only to the board of directors, so when selecting deep technologies, experts are brought into the board to investigate and decide which technologies will the agency invest in and assist. The Youth Department of the New Taipei City Government also actively assists young start-ups by focusing on social innovation and industrial upgrading, and by providing assistance to start-up teams through various policies and systems.

Taiwan and Singapore can collaborate! Director-General Chiu pointed out that although Singapore's system cannot be 100% applied to Taiwan, there are many tech talents in Taiwan, and Singapore's industry is very fond of Taiwan's talents. The New Taipei City Government can also focus on bridging deep technology with international learning resources, facilitating international network exchange technology, and at the same time allowing Taiwan and New Taipei City's industry to gain more knowledge and learning resources.
