Mayor Hou Yu-ih Visits the Netherlands to Connect with Major Companies, Aiming to Build a Smart and Healthy City for 780,000 Seniors
(New Taipei City) — New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih led a city government delegation on a European tour to visit Advantech’s subsidiary, AAEON Technology, a New Taipei-based company, to learn about its overseas operations. The visit aims to help connect “Made in New Taipei” products with the global market. The delegation also met with representatives from the international giant Philips to discuss smart healthcare and senior care, creating opportunities for collaboration and incorporating international expertise into the "Silver Future City" project to promote the construction of a smart and healthy city.
As Taiwan’s most important industrial hub, New Taipei City is home to over 6,000 ICT companies and more than 2,600 healthcare-related businesses, forming a complete smart health industry cluster. At the same time, with approximately 790,000 residents aged 65 and over, accounting for about 19.5% of the total population, the city is rapidly heading toward a “super-aged society.” This demographic shift makes the demand for smart healthcare and health services increasingly urgent.
Mayor Hou said that AAEON Technology demonstrates the critical role New Taipei companies play in the global industrial chain. Headquartered in the Baogao Smart Industrial Park in Xindian, the company has long focused on embedded industrial computers, AI edge computing, and smart city applications. With its European headquarters in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, AAEON's subsidiary, Onyx Healthcare, has successfully entered the European medical market, specializing in medical-grade computers and remote care solutions, making it an important reference case for other manufacturers looking to enter Europe.
Lai Li-kai, General Manager of AAEON Technology Europe, stated that AAEON is a key partner of NVIDIA and continues to promote smart applications through embedded computing and AI devices. Onyx Healthcare shared its experience in navigating European medical regulations, review processes, and market characteristics, emphasizing that "New Taipei’s innovations can truly enter European hospitals and clinics to benefit more people."
The city government delegation then visited Philips' Best Campus. The company’s representatives introduced their R&D achievements in medical imaging and patient monitoring systems, including a remote patient monitoring platform and AI-assisted diagnostic imaging technology that successfully improves medical efficiency and reduces the burden on healthcare professionals. Philips also highlighted its commitment to sustainability and green design concepts and expressed its desire to collaborate with New Taipei City and local manufacturers.
Mayor Hou believes that the Netherlands' expertise in smart medical system design, long-term care services, and digital applications holds significant reference value for New Taipei. The city will actively learn from these examples and continue to integrate overseas resources and international networks to create a demonstration base centered on smart healthcare, health services, and active senior living. In the future, the "Silver Future City" platform will be used to promote New Taipei as a smart and healthy city that combines both industrial development and citizen well-being.
