iF DESIGN AWARD Winner Jay Peng Takes Charge of the Brand Vision of the First Gold Label Race of Sustainability in Asia
【New Taipei City News】 The 2023 New Taipei City Wan-Jin-Shi Marathon is open up for registration at 12:00 p.m. today (26th), and the race will take place on March 19 next year. New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-Ih and Chinese Taipei Athletics Association President Yeh Chen-Yen jointly attended the registration commencement media conference for the race and declared that the 2023 Wan-Jin-Shi Marathon targets to apply for the WA Gold Label Certification and the International Responsible Sports Label and become the first Gold Label road race with green certification in Asia, they also invited all persons involving in the race to jointly implement the spirit of “responsible sports” to make contributions to environmental sustainability.
According to New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-Ih, New Taipei City had signed the “Climate Emergency Declaration” and issued its “White Paper on New Taipei City Net Zero Route and Climate Actions.” The White Paper aims to build a sustainable city by “reducing 30% of carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieving net zero carbon dioxide emission by 2050,” and the race is also a significant driver to realize environmental sustainability. Wan-Jin-Shi Marathon is the spotlight of New Taipei City and the symbol of health and sustainability. In 2023, substantial actions will be taken to apply for the International Responsible Sports Label for the race to become the first race with green certification in Asia.
According to Chinese Taipei Athletics Association President Yeh Chen-Yen, Wan-Jin-Shi Marathon is the only Silver Label race in Taiwan at present. Similar to the determination of the New Taipei City Government to seek environmental sustainability, the Chinese Taipei Athletics Association will join hands with New Taipei City Government to apply for the WA Gold Label Certification in 2023, which will attract more elite runners of Olympics level to join the race. Meanwhile, race services of premium quality and certified safe running tracks will be provided for domestic runners.
The Sports Office also said that apart from the International Responsible Sports Label, the race will also apply for the certification of ISO 20121 (Event Sustainability Management System) and ISO 14067 (Product Carbon Footprint) to prioritize the consideration of sustainability in event planning, organizing, and subsequent waste processing, so as to minimize impacts on society, economy, and environment. Regarding actions to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, in addition to producing runners’ T-shirts by using environmental and recyclable materials, the race is the first to combine the clothing storage bag and the eco-friendly dual-purpose bag of New Taipei City to reduce one-time wastes and create the value of circular use.
Designer Jay Peng, a winner of the iF DESIGN AWARD, the most influential design award in Asia, was specially invited to take charge of the image and vision of the 2023 Wan-Jin-Shi Marathon. He made use of combined visions to make bold breakthroughs for the brand of the race and used the Chinese slogan “What’Next(下一萬步)” in the image to exhibit the endless road ahead. In addition, the race cooperated with YouTuber Ah Qiang (阿強) of the channel “Yakyuu & Kanpai” to release a series of videos to introduce the unveiled secrets of the Wan-Jin-Shi Marathon. Meanwhile, the vocalist “Ji Dong (吉董)” of The Chairman, whose marathon PB exceeds 4, was invited to share his experiences about running and music for cross-field cooperation, which is becoming the latest craze.
The registration period for the “2023 Wan-Jin-Shi Marathon” is from 12:00 p.m., September 26, to 12:00 p.m., October 31, 2022, and the results of the random draw will be announced on the official website at 06:00 p.m., November 1, 2022.
