The Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival is the epitome of lantern festival celebrations in Taiwan. It has been called “the second biggest New Year’s Eve celebration in the world” by the Discovery Channel, and is one of CNN’s 52 Things To Do. For the festival, both Pingxi and Shifen are both towns rich in lantern culture and history. During Chinese New Year it is especially encouraged for tourists to visit Pingxi and Shifen, releasing a Chinese lantern.
This year’s Pingxi Lantern Festival also combined a variety of resources and attractions, helping tourists from around the world gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan's beauty and culture. Local and foreign visitors can experience the unique cultural activity of Pingxi and Shifen. Plus, people can write their wishes on the lanterns, and then launch them into the sky for dreams coming true! Come and feel the classic tradition of Pingxi and Shifen in New Taipei City!
